A much-loved fish and chip restaurant has announced it is to close after 50 years of business - to the shock of loyal customers. The Seafarer in Northwich, Cheshire, has announced it will close its doors later this month.
The restaurant and takeaway, hailed as the "best fish and chips in Cheshire" by loyal fans, has played host to a number of celebrities over the years. That includes Northwich band The Charlatans who hail it their favourite chippy, and football legend George Best.
The announcement of its closure was made on social media, with the restaurant owners saying that it had been a pleasure to serve Northwich and the surrounding area for the past 50 years or so. The restaurant was first opened by the late former Manchester United hero George Best back in April 1971.

The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess, who originally hails from Northwich, went on to choose The Seafarer as the venue for a Q&A with fans.
A statement released by the owners, who took over the business in June 1975, said: "It is with much regret that the Seafarer Restaurant and Takeaway will cease trading. The final day of trading will be Sunday 23 October 2022.

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor Grammy and Oscar winning singer-songwriter Sam Smith has announced their fourth studio album, “Gloria,” will be released on January 27, 2023 via Capitol Records. Made with longtime collaborators Jimmy Napes, Stargate and Max Martin stablemate Ilya, the album is described in the announcement as “not only a creative revelation but something of a personal revolution for the celebrated artist. Lyrically, the subjects dive deep and wide, into contemporary narratives around sex, lies, passion, self-expression and imperfection.” Smith says, “It feels like emotional, sexual and spiritual liberation. It was beautiful, with this album, to sing freely again. Oddly, it feels like my first-ever record. And it feels like a coming of age.”
Peter Shapiro I’ve known the name Ron Delsener for as long as I can remember. Growing up in New York, I listened to a lot of radio — especially Q104.3 — and you’d hear ads for concerts at Madison Square Garden and Giants Stadium (pre-MetLife) brought to you by “Ron Delsener Presents.” Then you’d see his name on the ticket stub. As I was graduating college, and thinking about a career in music, he was a god in my world. Now 86 years old, Ron announced his retirement last week. He marked the occasion backstage at a show, of course. I got to witness Jeff Beck’s enormous smile as Ronnie came down steps of the Capitol Theater and turned the corner. A few nights later, I saw Ron at the Beacon Theatre for the B-52s. That pace he has, that endurance and passion, I don’t think that’ll ever end.

I feel a lot of closure because my part of the show was a tribute to my father,” Wolfgang explained.“When it comes to Van Halen and entities surrounding the band it’s unfortunate, certainly compared to Foo Fighters, who have their shit together with interpersonal relationships.”Wolfgang performed as the bassist for Van Halen for 14 years between 2006 to 2020, but insists the band is “very dysfunctional” – making a tribute gig featuring the rest of the band unlikely.Speaking to Classic Rock magazine (via Music-News), he added: “I don’t know what it is with some bands but certain personalities just can’t get over themselves to work collectively for one purpose.
