‘Cheat,’ FrightFest-Bound Supernatural Horror Film, Picked up by Black Mandala

In the new Netflix docuseries, At Home with the Furys, Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champion boxer Tyson Fury, revealed an unexpected career aspiration. The series showcases Tyson Fury's home life with his pregnant wife Paris and their six children, and it also features newly-engaged Tommy and his fiancee Molly-Mae Hague, who met on Love Island in 2019 and now share a daughter Bambi. During the show, Tommy discussed his career goals with Tyson, revealing that he is interested in pursuing a career acting in horror films.

Chances are you’ve seen a “Star Wars” movie. Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief “Evil Does Not Exist,” the new drama film by “Drive My Car” director Hamaguchi Ryusuke, has been picked up for North American release by Sideshow and Janus Films. The title will have its world premiere in competition at the Venice festival before playing as a special presentation in Toronto and the main slate of the New York Film Festival. Sideshow and Janus Films, which acquired all North American rights, expect to release the film in theaters after a run of top festivals.

Naman Ramachandran U.K.-based sales and distribution company Blue Finch Film Releasing has secured global distribution rights, excluding North America, for Teresa Sutherland’s film “Lovely, Dark, and Deep.” The film debuted at the Fantasia International Film Festival. Blue Finch is set to kick off sales at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. North American rights for the film are held by XYZ Films.

William Earl Horror Film School is a new feature in which talent in front of and behind the camera share the ins and outs of creating the biggest onscreen scares. “Cobweb” is French director Samuel Bodin’s feature debut, but he’s well-known to horror fans for directing and co-writing the scary-as-hell 2019 French series “Marianne.” Bodin expands on the shadows and secrets of the series with “Cobweb,” a twisty tale in which Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr play the creepy parents of Peter (Woody Norman), who starts hearing haunted whispers in the walls. The Hollywood project, produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey, was a departure for Bodin, but follows his tested guidelines for conjuring scares. Bodin shares his dos and don’ts of directing a scary movie.
