The cost of living is going to soar even higher on Friday (April 1), with the energy price cap rising, new council tax rates and increasing National Insurance. The average household energy bill will rise by 54 percent, costing an extra £693 a year.
The government is helping around 28 million households with the increasing costs, saying it will provide £350 to the 'vast majority' affected. A council tax rebate, an upfront loan on energy bills and a £150m fund for local authorities are some of the measures being introduced.
Meanwhile, fuel costs remain high for motorists adding to concerns around the cost of living. The latest figures from the RAC show that an average litre of Unleaded petrol in the UK costs 163.52p, while the average litre of diesel is 177.47p. On Tuesday, the RAC said average petrol prices are 'not fully reflecting' the recent cut in fuel duty, which was announced in the Chancellor's Spring statement.

While duty was cut by 5p per litre last week, petrol has fallen less than 4p, and diesel by less than 3p, the RAC said.
The Manchester Evening News has compiled a list of 15 places supplying some of the cheapest petrol and diesel fuel across Manchester and a bit further afield. All these locations are within five miles from the centre of Manchester and all data was collated from PetrolPrices.com.
Petrol prices can vary depending on supply and demand. These prices were correct at the time of writing (Thursday, March 31) but could change quickly as gas prices continue to increase.
