A Scots mum has revealed a cheap way to keep damp and condensation at bay as winter starts to draw in.
Natasha Murfin from West Lothian "swears by" filling plastic cups with salt and leaving them near all the windows in her home. She says she learned the hack from her grandparents, who do the same thing in their caravan to remove condensation overnight.
After spotting droplets on her windows one morning, she was reminded of the hack thanks to her neighbour suggesting the same thing, the Mirror reports.
She said: "I can't afford a dehumidifier in every room so I thought, even if it doesn't work, it's only about £3 - I may as well give it a go.
"It worked an absolute treat."
The savvy mum bought 1.5kg of cooking salt from Tesco for £1.75 and 15 paper cups for just £1.15.
"I put one cup per windowpane in every room in the house," she said.
"The windows used to drip with condensation, and we would have to wipe them every morning with a squeegee.
"Since using the salt trick, we haven't had to wipe them once.
"I only half fill the cups with salt, and I shake them every morning to check the salt isn't sticking together.
"We've had the salt out for five days now and it's still soft.
"If the salt becomes hard and damp, it's time to replace it."
Other ways to keep condensation and damp at bay include placing cling film over windows and foil behind radiators, according to Martin Lewis.
The money saving expert has previously spoken about how this can reduce heat loss and reduce the risk of condensation forming.
If you place the foil behind radiators the heat should bounce off the it into the rest of the room. You can buy specialist radiator foil but some people suggest regular tin foil - which is cheaper - also creates the same effect.
