Everyone connected with Thomas Vinterberg's Oscar-winning dramedy Another Round has a drinking story. For Emil Goll, lead singer of Scarlet Pleasure — the band behind the song "What a Life," which plays over the film's final, climactic dancing scene — it was his first time being full-out wasted with fellow band member Joachim Dencker, or as the Danes call it, "druk," the movie's original title.

Denmark is raising a glass to its Oscar winners, celebrating Thomas Vinterberg, whose dramedy Another Round won best international film, and Mikkel Nielsen, who took home the Academy Award for best sound editing on Sound of Metal. "Huge Danish Victory!" shouted the headline of Danish tabloid BT, which blasted the news early Monday morning, local time, that Vinterberg's Another Round had won the Oscar for best international film.

With such a varied mix winners from around the world at Sunday’s Oscars, local media has been awash with praise as news of victories spread from Los Angeles to Seoul, and Copenhagen to London — but not so much in China.

While “Another Round” doesn’t have the same Oscar chances that “Parasite” did last year, Thomas Vinterberg’s dramedy about excessive drinking is easily one of the best films of the past year and should be must-see programming for anyone who hasn’t already enjoyed the Mads Mikkelsen-starring feature.
