Service users at the Change Mental Health Resource Centre in Castle Douglas have been working on a quilt project for Mental Health Awareness Week.
The project began with a conversation about “change”.
The group explored what it takes to get from a negative mental space to a more positive one.
Some of these things are “being seen”, “being in a safe space” and “feeling valued.”
Service users used this as a starting point to explore their own mental health journey and portray it through a combination of textile techniques.
The result is a beautiful array of textile collage, cross stitch, printed photography, crochet and knitting which expresses different feelings and the things that help to keep us well.
The quilt also represents the charity’s change of name last year from Support in Mind Scotland to Change Mental Health.
The finished quilt was displayed for family, friends and the community at the Mental Health Awareness Week Open Day.
It was great to have the finished quilt on show and promote the service.
Between the sales table, plant sales and raffle table, around £200 was raised for the charity.
