A dramatic car fire on a motorway slip road has sent smoke pouring across the motorway as Scotland's traffic agency begged motorists to find another way home.
Fire officers descended on the blazing vehicle on the M90 southbound slip road at Junction 2 connecting to the A823 near Rosyth, Fife, shortly after 3.30pm on Monday.
Traffic camera images showed thick clouds of fumes wafting across the nearby motorway as the car burned.
It is understood that an electrical fault is to blame.
The response to the fire has caused large tailbacks on the motorway and the slip road has been closed while the blaze is extinguished.
Network monitors Traffic Scotland have asked drivers to consider alternative routes.
Posting on Twitter, the agency said: "Off slip from the #M90 southbound J2 closed for the #A823 to Dunfermline due to a vehicle fire.
"Traffic queuing on approach. Please [use an alternative route] meantime."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called to attend a vehicle fire on the M90 spur road heading southbound at 3.34pm on Monday February 14 2022.
"Police Scotland's presence has been requested for traffic management and vehicle recovery.
"One appliance remains on the scene at the moment, and there are no injuries."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We are assisting with traffic management."
