Cannes Film Festival To Announce Official Selection Lineup On June 3

The much-awaited Cannes Film Festival which happens around May every year was cancelled this year owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. Indian celebrities like , , and others who usually walk the red carpet for brands also did not get to put down their best fashionable foot forward.

The 2020 Cannes Film Festival was set to take place in May but due to the coronavirus outbreak that sadly was not meant to be. The festival was initially postponed, but following the spread of the virus was cancelled in physical form. However, the festival will live on with the movies’ set to debut at the festival were officially unveiled this evening by Thierry Frémaux, the Festival’s General Delegate.

Films by Wes Anderson, Steve McQueen and Pixar all made the cut

From an empty movie theater in Paris, organizers of the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday announced the films that would have played at there in May had it not been canceled by the pandemic.

Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” Pete Docter’s “Soul” and two films from Steve McQueen, “Lovers Walk” and “Mangrove” (both from his anthology series “Small Axe”), are among the films that would have gone to this year’s Cannes Film Festival if it had taken place, Cannes organizers announced at a press conference in Paris on Wednesday.

A bit earlier today, in lieu of the actual fest (canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, of course), the Cannes Film Festival announced what their Official Selections would have been. Of course, these movies won’t actually be playing at Cannes, but they will be showing at other festivals around the world over the next handful of months (barring a resurgence of COVID-19, obviously).

The organisers of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival, which will not go ahead in physical form this year, have announced that they will announced the official selection for the festival at the beginning of June.

Perhaps even more important than actually screening your film at the Cannes Film Festival (which is a great honor and pretty damn important itself) is the badge given to filmmakers to add to marketing materials calling your feature an “Official Cannes Selection.” Well, the French film festival understands this and is planning on unveiling its 2020 selections in a week. But before that, according to Variety, we know some of the films that are expected to be given the selection badge.
