Canada to Allow Fully-Vaccinated Americans to Enter Starting August 9, Easing Way for Toronto Film Festgoers

Not only did Ailey form a dance movement, but his company also became a pioneering force for Black artists as they traveled the world, introducing political themes and helping integrate the world of dance.Street dancer-turned-choreographer Rennie Harris had heard the name but didn’t become interested in the Ailey movement until late in the 2000s.

As a choreographer, dancer, director, and founder of the 1958 theater company named after him, Alvin Ailey was an instrumental figure in showcasing the African American experience through dance. The new film, “Ailey” — documenting the icon’s life — is now in theaters.

Toronto International Film organizers declared two weeks ago they will be welcoming back in-person audiences for a fest that will run from September 9-18. This after Canada made an exemption to allow for the National Hockey League playoffs to happen in country, and more recently that the Toronto Blue Jays will resume playing in the ballpark on Blue Jay Way by the end of the month.

Canada said Monday that it will begin easing restrictions on travel in and out of the country that  have been in place since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, news that will be welcome to organizers of this fall’s Toronto Film Festival who have been planning an international event not knowing whether anybody outside the country would be able to attend.
