SACRAMENTO – After considerable criticism at the roll-out of coronavirus vaccinations in California, in a system beset with shortages of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines at a national level and confusion in the state’s coronavirus vaccine delivery system, it was announced that health insurance giant Blue Shield of California will be the outside administrator.

SACRAMENTO – California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Monday that he was cancelling the stay-at-home order that had been reimposed on residents of 51 of the state’s 58 counties last month as a state-wide shortage of ICU and hospital beds crippled California’s healthcare systems.

“Los Angeles County will essentially align with the state,” said L.A. County Board Chair Hilda Solis on Monday afternoon, “which will include outdoor dining.” She said those changes would happen by the end of the week.

“Everything that should be up is up, everything that should be down is down,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday as he sought to explain his sudden decision to end the state’s Regional Stay-at-Home Order. Newsom said he was referencing to Covid-19 numbers and vaccinations. Many in the state, however, have felt less certain of the nature of up vs. down.

California lifted regional stay-at-home orders across the state Monday in response to improving coronavirus conditions, returning the state to a system of county-by-county restrictions, state health officials announced. The order had been in place in the San Francisco Bay Area, San Joaquin Valley and Southern California, covering the majority of the state's counties.

Officials with the California Department of Public Health have lifted the stay-at-home order for all counties amid signs that Covid-19 is spreading at a slower rate across the state.

In the past week there has been a lot of good news for virus-ridden California. The graph charting the number of new cases in the state looks like a downward staircase, from 42,655 on Thursday to 30,699 on Saturday to 22,403 on Wednesday. That’s a near 50% drop in less than a week.
