Truly one of 2023's breakout talents, Caity Baser's having quite the year. Fresh off the back of her first-ever Top 40 smash Pretty Boys, debut EP Thanks For Nothing, See You Never, a headline tour and collaborations with Sigala and Mae Muller and Joel Corry, Caity returns this week with Leave Me Alone.
A tale of a former love interest refusing to let go, Leave Me Alone sees Caity navigate the mixed messages that all too often ensue after an acrimonious split.
And, hey - if anyone can tell 'em where to stick it, it's Caity.
In typically-quirky, no-filter style, the not-so-radio-friendly-edit of the track begins with a sharp-tongued but playful 'f**k off.' The tone's been set within the first two seconds.
"Why you texting me if you say you're not interested? Why you pulling up to my house to get in my bed?," Caity asks. "None of this is making sense, always had your back but now you're stabbing mine instead..."
Obvious - if a little lazy - comparisons could be drawn to debut album era Lily Allen or 2007 Kate Nash here. But, truthfully, nobody's doing it quite like Caity in 2023. Very much in her own lane, and further cementing her inimitable artistry with every new release, Caity's fast establishing herself as the voice of the 2020s adolescent; fears, frustrations, flaws and all.
"Leave me alone, 'cause I don't wanna talk any more, don't wanna wake up to your clothes sat on my bedroom floor. Oh no, you like it how it was all before, that was then, this is now, wow! Leave me alone."
Chatting about the track, Caity says: "I wrote Leave Me Alone about this boy that I was seeing. And then after we stopped seeing each other I was like 'fine, we're not seeing each other anymore,' but then he was still bugging me and calling

Todd Gilchrist editor “For Khadija” is billed as a documentary about French Montana, but there’s a reason that it’s named not after the hip-hop alter ego of Moroccan expatriate Karim Kharbouch, but his mother. “I felt like my mother’s story, the beginning to the end, the closure of her going back to Morocco, is when I was like, okay, now the story has a meaning,” French tells Variety. “This goes out to all the mothers that struggle, that have kids, that was forced to sacrifice.” Given the other films made about rappers and their families — including “Dear Mama,” about Afeni and Tupac Shakur and “Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell,” which heavily features Notorious B.I.G.’s mother Violetta Wallace — it’s not necessarily an unexpected place to start. But the documentary, which premieres June 16 at the Tribeca film Festival, uses the relationship between Karim and Khadija to highlight the unpredictable path that led a scrappy Moroccan child to become a worldwide rap star, while charting the financial struggles and familial strife that threatened to derail his meteoric rise.
New York rapper-producer Cash Cobain has signed Giant Music, a new label venture from veteran industry exec Irving Azoff.
