FX has ordered a pilot for “English Teacher” — a new comedy about a gay high school teacher in Austin, Texas — starring, written and executive produced by “Will & Grace” actor Brian Jordan Alvarez. Paul Simms will also executive produce.Alvarez will portray Evan, a teacher who is trying to meet both the demands of his students and their parents in an ever-changing world.

FX has greenlit the comedy pilot English Teacher from executive producers Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace, Jane the Virgin) and Paul Simms (What We Do in the Shadows, Atlanta, Girls, Flight of the Conchords). Alvarez will also write and star in the pilot.

Alvarez is writing the pilot and will also executive produce in addition to starring.

Out On Film has announced the lineup for its Stonewall Month slate of films.  The Oscar® qualifying film festival returns to theaters this June. In a sign that things are getting back to some degree of normalcy, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is returning to pre-pandemic rules of eligibility and no longer will allow its digital Screening Room as a way to qualify. Instead, it said that because theaters have reopened, the six qualifying U.S. metropolitan areas continue to be Los Angeles County, the City of New York, the Bay Area, Chicago, Miami and Atlanta, and rules apply to General Entry categories as well as the Documentary and Short Film categories. Feature films must have a seven-day theatrical run before exhibition in any other medium with specific requirements. Drive-ins remain eligible.
