Bruce Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau has released a statement following criticism about the musician’s recent ticket prices.Last week, when tickets for Springsteen’s 2023 world tour dates went on sale, fans were asked to pay up to $5000 (£4152) for some tickets. The site’s “dynamic pricing” model allows Ticketmaster to charge more for tickets when they first go on sale. The system responds to demand and so increases or decreases prices in line with what “scalpers” – a person who re-sells a ticket for profit – would sell them for, keeping the money in-house for the seller and artist. The system also sees increase with demand for certain “platinum tickets”, which are placed throughout each venue. Now, Springsteen’s manager has responded to the backlash to the prices.
In a statement to The New York Times he said: “In pricing tickets for this tour, we looked carefully at what our peers have been doing. We chose prices that are lower than some and on par with others.”He continued: “Regardless of the commentary about a modest number of tickets costing $1,000 (£828) or more, our true average ticket price has been in the mid-$200 (£165) range.
I believe that in today’s environment, that is a fair price to see someone universally regarded as among the very greatest artists of his generation.”Ticketmaster had previously defended the model saying that only 11.2 per cent of the Springsteen tickets sold were platinum, and only 1.3 per cent were $1000 (£830) or more. They also said the average price for a Springsteen ticket was $262 (£217).As per Variety, it was reported that “Ticketmaster says [the most expensive tickets] represent only 11 per cent of the overall tickets sold.

Katcy Stephan SPOILER ALERT: This piece contains spoilers for the finale of “FBoy Island,” now streaming on HBO Max. Just as “FBoy Island” stars Mia Emani Jones, Louise Barnard and Tamaris Sepulveda prepared to make their final decisions, host Nikki Glaser presented the three leading ladies with a surprise third option: They could choose neither of their remaining two men, and instead keep the $100,000 for themselves. In the end, only Tamaris chose the money, while Mia and Louise gambled with FBoy contestants Mercedes Knox and Peter Park, who both opted to split the prize money with them. The ladies chatted with Variety ahead of the season finale to reflect on their experiences, and give an update on their love lives. “I had in the back of my head, ‘Maybe I should just screw him over before he screws me over,’” Louise recalls of her final choice. “But I felt like that would be horrible to Benedict, because he’s also a great option. And so I decided it wouldn’t make sense for me to take the whole $100K.” Mia came much closer to accepting the cash, revealing that she took over 40 minutes to make the call.

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorFormer President Barack Obama has unveiled another of his summer playlists, and as in the past, it’s a combination of the expected — NPR-level but edgy rap and R&B, some old soul chestnuts, a smattering of alt-rock and country, a nod to his podcast-mate Bruce Springsteen, and some international gems — along with a couple of “woah!” surprises, particularly British upstarts Wet Leg. (We could give more examples, but just look below.)Like his past lists and his annual summer reading lists, it’s a combination of age-appropriate, adventurous (but not too adventurous) and family-friendly music that uniformly has a positive or socially relevant message — just like the man and the policies of his presidency, which feels so long ago.

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music CriticIn the wake of an ongoing furor over “dynamic pricing” for Bruce Springsteen’s tour, Ticketmaster took the unusual step Sunday afternoon of releasing some statistics about costs and percentages for the dates that went on sale last week. Downplaying the number of controversial “platinum” tickets with variable prices that reached as high as $5,000 apiece on the first day of on-sales, Ticketmaster says those represent only 11.2% of the overall tickets sold.By the ticketing service’s calculations, that left the other 88.2% of tickets sold at fixed prices that ranged from from $59.50 to $399 before added service fees.Ticketmaster further says that the average price of all tickets sold so far is $262, with 56% being sold for under $200 face value.
