Brookside legend Dean Sullivan dies aged 68 as family pay heartbreaking tribute

Dean Sullivan, actor in hit Channel 4 soap Brookside, has sadly died aged 68. His family and friends have now paid an emotional tribute to the star, best known for his great portrayal of Jimmy Corkhill in the programme, and confirmed his death. A statement given from both Hamilton Management and Dean's family read: "To millions he was and very much still is remembered as 'Jimmy', to family and friends he was 'Dino'.
"Dean's family wants to thank Arrowe Park Hospital for their unwavering and consistent support. We ask that you respect their privacy in their time of grief." It's thought that Dean was the longest-serving member of the Channel 4 soap Brookside - which stopped running in 2003 - and tributes have flooded in for the star. Paying tribute to Dean's legacy on social media, one said: "I do love a soap icon, and they didn’t come more iconic than Jimmy Corkhill.
What terribly sad news. Beloved actor Dean Sullivan has passed away. My thoughts are with his many friends and family xx." Another added: "Really sad to hear Dean Sullivan has died, Jimmy Corkhill was a cracking character in Brookside and a proper soap icon.
RIP, Dean." A third posted: "Saddened to hear of the passing of the Brookside actor Dean Sullivan who played Jimmy Corkhill my condolences to his family and friends rest in peace Dean Sullivan." In 2018 Dean was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he decided to go for radiotherapy treatment.
Then, last year he was discharged and used that time to help raise awareness for the disease. Speaking to the Echo, Dean said that the strength of flow when he went to the toilet reduced, and that is why he went to see a doctor.
