Broadway is closing amid coronavirus concerns.
The theaters will be going dark beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday (March 12), Playbill confirmed in a report.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced in a press conference that no gatherings of more than 500 people will be allowed, excepting schools, hospitals, mass transit, and nursing homes effective Friday (March) 13 at 5 p.m. ET.
One day before, it was revealed that a Broadway usher tested positive for the coronavirus.

As the U.S. music industry reeled in the wake of the postponement of basically every major current tour for at least the next few weeks amid coronavirus concerns, the U.K.’s largest festival, Glastonbury, unveiled more than 90 additional acts for its scheduled 50 th anniversary event — including Kendrick Lamar, Dua Lipa, Pet Shop Boys and more — joining the already announced headliners Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered all Broadway theaters to shut their doors on Thursday amid ongoing coronavirus concerns. Cuomo banned gatherings of 500 or more in the city, effectively forcing the hand of Broadway producers who had previously said that Broadway would be “open for business” unless advised otherwise by the government.
