K.J. Yossman Ed Sheeran has scored a second victory in his recent copyright trial after a British judge awarded the singer over $1.1 million in costs. The sum represents approximately 90% of Sheeran’s legal bill.Explaining his decision to award Sheeran such substantial costs, Judge Antony Zacaroli wrote in his judgment: “The starting point is to identify the winners and losers in the action because the general rule is that the unsuccessful party pays the costs of the successful party… There is no dispute as to this: [Sheeran] undoubtedly won and won on every substantial point.”In April, Judge Zacaroli ruled that Sheeran had not plagiarised a 2015 song titled “Oh Why” by Sami Chokri in his hit “Shape of You.” Sheeran co-wrote “Shape of You” alongside Snow Patrol singer Johnny McDaid and producer Steve Mac (during the trial he used his legal name of Steven McCutcheon), who were co-claimants in the action.Chokri’s legal team had argued that, through a publicity campaign and mutual friends including SBTV founder Jamal Edwards (who unexpectedly died shortly before the trial), Sheeran had had the opportunity to listen to – and plagiarize – Chokri’s track.
Tiësto has revealed that his collaboration with Charli XCX, ‘Hot In It’, will be arriving in full sometime next week.Charli shared a snippet the song on TikTok last month, using it to soundtrack a clip of herself getting ready to attend this year’s amfAR Gala in Cannes.“I’m gon’ be rockin’ it, droppin’ it/ Shake my ass, I’m stopping it/ I look hot in it, hot in it/ I look hot in it,” the pop star could be heard singing on the track’s chorus in the preview. On Friday (June 17) Tiësto announced that the song would be released on June 30, with the superstar DJ and producer tweeting that “it’s going to be a HOT IN IT Summer !!!”It's going to be a HOT IN IT Summer !!! @charli_xcx https://t.co/SIx6vvrF0c— Tiësto (@tiesto) June 17, 2022Charli’s most recent album was March’s ‘Crash’. In a four-star review, NME‘s El Hunt wrote: “Since the beginning, we’ve seen Charli XCX trying on many guises, whether she’s referencing new-wave on ‘Sucker’ or teaming up with SOPHIE to craft an alien new interpretation of pop on her 2016 EP ‘Vroom Vroom’.“One emotion that her music will never evoke is boredom, and even when her sights are trained on infiltrating mainstream pop, she’s still an artist with a knack for surprising. If ‘Crash’ really does mark the death of Charli XCX as a major label artist – what a way to go.”Tiësto’s last album was 2020’s ‘The London Sessions’, which was recorded during a month-long stay in the British capital and featured collaborations with Becky Hill, Snoop Dogg, Rita Ora, Post Malone, Mabel and more. The DJ confirmed in March that he was working on a new full-length release that he expected to be finished by the end of February, and that he hopes to release it this summer.“Yeah.

Amber Heard, Johnny Depp has hit the road, ostensibly to tour with 77-year-old musician friend Jeff Beck but also possibly to rub salt in the $15 million wound with a UK-wide victory lap. I’m not usually one for conspiracy theories but why else would Depp — international mega star, ex-boyfriend of Kate Moss — cavort with badgers in Kent, eat £50,000 worth of Indian food in Birmingham and dispense parenting advice to a Geordie bar manager other than to refuel the social media fire which has laid waste his ex-wife’s life? It started in Sheffield when Depp appeared on stage with Beck, much to the excitement of Beck’s fans, and basically everyone on social media. Little is known about what happened after the show, but they presumably tore up Division Street in time-honoured Sheffield style.
