Boy caught on camera on top of derelict building as 'cops pelted with shards of glass and given middle finger'

A boy was caught on camera on top of a derelict Stockport building before being arrested by cops following a tense stand-off. Police were called to Wellington Road South (A6) on Tuesday afternoon (September 26) to reports of an 'antisocial behaviour incident'.
It is understood windows were smashed at the empty building - formerly used by Stockport College - before glass was hurled into the road. Witnesses said a boy was seen 'standing on the roof' as shards of broken pane were 'thrown into the road and at police'.
Traffic was diverted as Tactical Aid Unit officers arrived at the scene. GMP later said a boy, 12, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage; and section 18 assault.

One witness, who works at a nearby takeaway, said: "There has been a group of kids in this area in that building daily causing trouble and smashing up windows. It's been happening for ages.
"One of them was up there for a good 45 minutes to an hour on the roof, chucking glass into the street and putting up his middle fingers. He was throwing glass into the road and at police and buses.
"He was just causing a nuisance. It's not normal behaviour. He was up there for a while as the police waited for reinforcements and brought the dogs in because there was not cooperating with him."
The building, which stands empty, was formerly used by Stockport College. Students and staff are now in a building next door.
