Wincing in pain, Helena Abrahams reached for her favourite piece of jewellery and gently placed it inside a box.
Her parents had gifted her the diamond necklace for her birthday and she didn’t want to part with it. But housebound and living off Pringles, the 52-year-old knew she had no choice.
Helena was forced to sell everything she owned on eBay after a botched surgery completely destroyed her life. The former model was left unable to walk after an operation to fix bulging discs in her back went wrong.

It’s alleged metal placed into her back snapped just six weeks after she had the procedure. Tragically, Helena was left in so much pain she lost the baby she was carrying at the time and tried to end her life.
She claims no medical professional would help her and she spent the next three years housebound without a single visitor or phone call.
“I had no future,” she told the Manchester Evening News. “I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life trapped indoors.
“I didn’t have a penny to my name and sold all my clothes and jewellery on eBay to survive and make sure my cats got food.”
Helena, who lives in Bury, says she attempted to take legal action following her surgery but lost the case. She spent years unable to walk and could only move by dragging herself around the house.
“My dad was the only person I saw in three years,” she added. “It becomes a very lonely existence. The pain through my body was horrendous. I can’t even explain it.”
Helena started experiencing disc problems when she was in her 30s. Before then, she had built a successful career as a model and TV extra, even appearing in ITV’s Band of Gold
