New recruit police officers get a baptism of fire in the Belfast force for BBC One drama series Blue Lights, set to become the latest must-watch show. Sian Brooke stars as social-worker-turned-rookie-cop Grace Ellis - but she won't be the only familiar cast member to viewers as the cast is packed with actors you'll recognise. But where have you seen them before? From Game Of Thrones to Doctor Foster and Vikings, here's where the cast have popped up in recent years...
Sian Brookes plays Grace Ellis She's been a respected social worker her whole career, but in her 40s and with a teenage son, Grace decides to turn her life on its head by joining the police force. However, a month in she's making so many mistakes that she's beginning to wonder if it was the worst decision of her life. “I was intrigued as to why somebody would be mad enough to change career like that,” Sian says.
“She’s a lot braver than I am, a lot more courageous, determined and resolute." Viewers will recognise Sian from Good Omens, Sherlock and Doctor Foster. Nathan Braniff plays Tommy Foster After a sheltered upbringing in a middle-class family, the reality of policing come as quite a shock to Tommy. Meanwhile, his marksmanship – or lack of it – could spell the end of his career.
For actor Nathan, this is his first major TV role, so he found himself learning on the job as much as Tommy. “Those emotions that you see Tommy having in some of those scenes are maybe the emotions I was going through at the time,” he laughs. This is Nathan's first major screen role.

Dennis Harvey Film Critic Even among many who’ve grasped the scientific evidence, or experienced escalating weather extremes, climate change remains an abstraction for most — something too large and vague to trigger urgent emotional response. Not so the fictive activists in “How to Blow Up a Pipeline,” inspired by Andreas Malm’s nonfiction tome of the same name. Though diverse in background and motivations, the eight individuals here drawn together to attack an oil conduit in Texas share a sense that the planetary environmental crisis is immediate, and the time for gently chiding protests past. Whether their actions constitute “eco-terrorism” and whether violence of any kind is ever justifiable in the service of progress are questions Daniel Goldhaber’s sophomore feature duly grapples with. Still, its degree of moral self-examination is unlikely to appease climate deniers, who’ll likely decry the film (if they notice it at all) as a recruitment poster for aspiring saboteurs. It’s more nuanced than that, but this strong, straightforward drama-cum-thriller about a divisive topic will nonetheless primarily appeal to viewers on the left side of the political dial. Neon is releasing to U.S. theaters on April 7.
