Long in the making sequels have been having a bit of a moment in Hollywood over the last handful of years. Properties long since thought dormant have come back to life, sometimes to great success.

They saved the world by writing the perfect song, but it didn't take. (Maybe somebody actually listened to the song: "God gave rock & roll to you," really?) Imagining the return of the time-traveling Messrs.

The long-long-long awaited sequel is a dicey enough proposition; remember “Independence Day: Resurgence”? “Blues Brothers 2000”? “Zoolander 2”? (Judging by the grosses, probably not.) But it’s particularly sticky when it comes to Bill and Ted, whose inaugural efforts – 1989’s “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and 1991’s “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey” – were so decidedly of their moments, rooted in the metal-dude doofery of the end of the ‘80s.
