If there’s one thing that social media is good for, particularly when it comes to beauty, it’s affordable alternatives for higher-end makeup, hair and skincare buys. For those on a tighter budget, apps like TikTok and Instagram are a gold mine for tried-and-tested beauty bargains – like these heated rollers for “Dyson Airwrap-like curls” or the £11.99 hair oil fans compare to Olaplex No.7. One of the latest to do the rounds is a £3 Primark mascara that is being compared to beauty fan favourite Benefit’s They’re Real! Mascara, £24.50 here.
An Instagram Reel posted to the Dupeshop account claims that Billion Dollar Lashes is a good affordable alternative for those on the hunt for a cheaper lash enhancer, with a model later comparing the results in the video. The video then goes on to offer thrifty shoppers further Primark “dupes”, including for high end foundations, bronzers and beauty sponges – and naturally many keen shoppers were quick to comment on the post expressing their excitement. "The mascara and the foundation is soo good!! Everyone compliments and can’t believe it’s Primark!" one shopper commented on the Reel.
"Gonna see if I can pick this up tomorrow," another added. However, one beauty fan noted that, while the cheaper mascara is still good for its bargain price tag, they think that you get what you pay for when it comes to the more expensive buy. "I tried this Primark dupe and found it wasn’t as good, mascara ran and isn’t waterproof, and a thinner consistency than the benefit.
