Call the Midwife cast from the very beginning when the BBC show first began airing in 2012. Shelagh was formerly known as sister Bernadette before she decided to leave the Order and start her new life away from the nunnery. From the early seasons of the hit drama, it was made clear to viewers that Shelagh was struggling with her life as a nun.
Eventually, she was seen looking into a mirror, removing her veil and untying her hair, letting go of her former self. Despite changing her appearance on the show, Shelagh kept her look minimalistic and smart. When she isn't gracing our screens, the 41-year-old actress is often seen glammed up. Playing an important role on the series, Laura has been involved in more than a few ground-breaking storyline over the years. In a previous press interview, the actress said expressed that on the set of the show, the cast are very supportive of each other.
She said: "It has lots of women in it. There are one or two men around, but it is about a bunch of women and, more importantly, a bunch of women who get on with each other, who are supportive and collaborate with each other. "Prior to her life-changing role, Laura appeared in BBC drama Holby City as Julia Mason in 2007 before playing Deirdre Hunter in 2011.
