On Oscar nominations morning, Aunjanue Ellis did her best not to pay attention. The “King Richard” star didn’t watch the nominations announcement and she turned off her phone.

Will Smith has received his third Oscar nomination this morning, earning his place on the Best Actor list for his role in King Richard. Smith played Richard Williams, the father of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, in a story charting the early days of their careers, and his role in the movie has been a favorite with critics and guilds all season long. In addition to pending nominations from SAG, BAFTA, and Critics’ Choice, Smith has already claimed prizes from several critics groups. It is a long-overdue return to the Oscars spotlight for Smith, whose turn in Warner Bros.’ King Richard, written by Zach Baylin and directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, has been recognized 15 years on from his last citation by the Motion Picture Academy.

Providing support. Vivica A. Fox gave an update on her longtime friend Regina King after the actress’ son, Ian Alexander Jr., died by suicide earlier this month.

Regina King is surrounded by so much love after the tragic passing of her 26-year-old son, Ian Alexander. Regina’s close friend, Vivica A. Fox, got to see the actress on Jan. 23, just two days after Ian died by suicide, and she opened up about it while hosting Face The Truth on Jan. 24. Vivica wiped tears away from her face as she updated viewers on how she raced to see her friend after hearing the news. “I was able to hug her,” Vivica revealed. “I got a text saying, ‘Regina wants to see you,’ and I made a U-turn and immediately head there. I had to go see my friend, my sister. More than anything else, I’m glad I got to hug her, glad I got to look in her eyes.”

Hollywood is sending out their love and support to Regina King as she mourns the loss of her only child. Janet Jackson, Kid Cudi, Josh Gad and more celebrities expressed sadness upon hearing the tragic news that Regina’s son Ian Alexander Jr. died by suicide at the age of 26. Many of the social media posts included heartbreaking photos of the mother and son, while others simply shared their heartfelt condolences.

J. Kim Murphy Ian Alexander Jr., a musician, DJ and son of actress and director Regina King, has died by suicide. He was 26 years old.Alexander’s death was confirmed to Variety by a public relations representative for King.
