Disney has confirmed that a new live-action version of Artemis Fowl is heading to its streaming service.
The coronavirus pandemic has taken a major toll on Hollywood's box office, as social distancing and shelter-in-place orders across the U.S. have led to release date delays, production shutdowns, theater closures, and, as a result, record-low movie ticket sales with no end in sight.
Trolls World Tour hit streaming and on-demand on April 10 rather than heading to theaters, as originally planned. As a result, the Universal family film became the first major movie since the coronavirus pandemic began to bypass theatrical release entirely, and the studio is reporting the digital release to have been a massive success.
It looks like the Mouse House’s Artemis Fowl will hit Disney+ on 12th June. The announcement came with a new trailer from the studio who recently decided to launch the Kenneth Branagh-directed movie onto the streaming service rather than delaying it until cinemas open once again. The film’s debut will be just two weeks after its previously planned theatrical debut. Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anozie, Colin Farrell, and Judi Dench are amongst the cast.

Disney’s adaptation of beloved YA novel series “Artemis Fowl” was to have debuted in theatres in late May; given the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, that plan has changed, with the film instead set to premiere on the Disney+ streaming service.
