Animation Guild Reaches “Historic” Deal To Represent Artists & Production Workers At Powerhouse Animation In Texas

Veteran location manager Dow Griffith (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Jumanji, And Justice For All) will be honored with the 2023 Location Managers Guild International’s Lifetime Achievement Award. It will be presented at the 10th annual LMGI Awards on Saturday, August 26 at The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica.

Among the disagreements between the two sides, according to SAG-AFTRA:A requested 11% general wage increase in the first year, and 4% in the second and third years to deal with inflation was countered with 5% in the first year, 4% in the second and 3.2% in the third, the guild says.A proposed a revenue sharing scheme on streaming services to offset residuals losses was flatly rejected by AMPTP.A proposal to make terms for background actors the same everywhere was rejected by AMPTP.A proposal to compensate background actors who also do stand-in work on the same day for both jobs, instead of paying them for one, was rejected.AMPTP agreed to provide hair and makeup specialists trained for diverse hair types and skin tones, but only for principle performers.And of course, the memo mentions the previously discussed proposal by AMPTP that studios be allowed to use AI to scan background actors and retain ownership and the right to use their likenesses in perpetuity, while paying them only once.“SAG-AFTRA continues to mischaracterize the negotiations with AMPTP,” AMPTP said in its own statement.

Moody’s Investors Service, which rates corporate creditworthiness, said it expects agreements with three Hollywood guilds will collectively cost big media companies it follows $450 million to $600 million more per year. The English-speaking country has an oversize production and post-production sector, with much of it set up to service inbound foreign productions, sometimes known as “runaway productions.” Strike orders “will apply to some scripted TV and feature films produced in Australia. SPA anticipates that a limited number of scripted ‘offshore’ (i.e. non-Australian) productions will be affected by the strike, with cast and crew stood down while the strike continues,” the SPA notice says.

What felt inevitable is now official: Deadline reports that SAG-AFTRA‘s national board voted unanimously this morning to launch its first strike since 1980. The strike begins tomorrow, July 14 at one minute past midnight, with picketing to start in front of studios tomorrow.
