Selena Kuznikov Independent media company and film distribution studio Angel Studios will provide early access for its upcoming film “Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot” to audiences with a special free screening June 19 as part of AMC’S Juneteenth programming initiative. Starring “Euphoria” actor Nika King and executive produced by Letitia Wright, the film is inspired by the true story of a small community in East Texas that embraced kids in the foster system no one else would adopt. With the help of Donna Martin and her husband Bishop Martin, 22 families adopted 77 children in the town.
AMC Theatres has hosted its Celebration of Juneteenth program, a special presentation of movies from Black filmmakers, for the past few years. In 2023, Stephen Williams’ “Chevalier” and A.V. Rockwell’s “A Thousand and One” were screened throughout the week of Juneteenth.
The free screenings are in conjunction with Angel Studios’ Pay it Forward program, which is an option shown on the Angel TV app that allows audiences to make a one-time or monthly payment to keep the streaming platform free. The company also has distributed “Sound of Freedom,” the faith-based thriller that took the box office by storm last summer. The film saw $40 million after just six days of release, and picked up $14.2 million on its opening day.
“Sound of Freedom” is based on the true story of Tim Ballard (Jim Caviezel), a former U.S. government agent that quits his job to rescue children from sex traffickers. “Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot” is set to release in theaters July 4.
