André Leon Talley was the former editor-at-large of Vogue magazine and an icon of the fashion world.Talley loved fashion since he found a copy of Vogue as a young boy growing up in the Jim Crow South. He moved to New York as a young man and began working for Andy Warhol (1928–1987) at his Interview Magazine. He began writing for Women’s Wear Daily before landing a position at Vogue as fashion news director.

The world is mourning a fashion visionary. Sadly, on Tuesday, André Leon Talley, the former editor of Vogue magazine, passed away, according to reports from TMZ.  The outlet learned that the creative died in a White Plains, New York hospital. He was 73.

Vogue's masthead in the ‘80s, first becoming the director and eventually the creative director, a role he left in 1995 before returning to Vogue three years later as its editor-at-large, a position he held until 2013. He was Vogue’s first African American male creative director. Talley was a fashion journalist through and through, having contributed to titles like W, Women's Wear Daily, The New York Times, and Interview Magazine. In May 2020 he released his second memoir, The Chiffon Trenches.
