EXCLUSIVE: Fresh off her Oscar-nomination for her performance in Anatomy of a Fall, Sandra Hüller looks to have found her follow-up project as she looks to team with another Oscar-nominee from the 2024 class. Sources tell Deadline, Hüller is set to join Ryan Gosling in Amazon MGM Studios adaptation of Project Hail Mary with Amy Pascal producing.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directing the film from a script by Drew Goddard. Pascal will produce through her Pascal Pictures along with Rachel O’Connor as will Gosling via his General Admission company; Lord, Miller and Aditya Sood via Lord Miller. Weir will also produce.
Project Hail Mary will be filmed for IMAX and released wide in theaters on March 20, 2026. Based on Andy Weir’s (The Martian) novel of the same name, middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He must figure out how to complete his interstellar mission to save Earth from an astronomical catastrophe completely alone, until he meets a mysterious alien who has traveled light years to save his own species from the same fate.
Executive producers include Lucy Kitada and Nikki Baida via Lord Miller; Goddard; Sarah Esberg; Ken Kao; and Patty Whitcher. Greig Fraser is the director of photography on the film.
Hüller is coming off her critically acclaimed role in Anatomy of a Fall as well as The Zone of Interest, both of which premiered at Cannes and launching her big year. Both films would earn Oscar nominations for Best Picture, with her performance in Anatomy of a Fall earning Hüller a Best Actress nomination.
