It’s been about 37 hours since Harlem’s Just Sam was crowned the new American Idol, and the 21-year-old former subway busker is still getting used to her new title.

Ryan Seacrest’s representative has assured fans the TV host is doing well after many raised concerns for his wellbeing during Sunday night’s American Idol finale.

Former subway singer Just Sam won the third season of ABC’s American Idol this weekend and she’s opening up about her big win!

A new American Idol has officially been crowned. 21-year-old Harlem singer Just Sam took home the grand prize in Sunday's Season 18 finale, which was held virtually amid the coronavirus pandemic. Ryan Seacrest revealed the news to Sam, who was left awestruck by the results. 

When we first saw Just Sam auditioning for American Idol, the 20-year-old subway singer from Harlem seemed both shy and incredibly confident at the same time. Singing "You Say" by Lauren Daigle, she stumbled out of the gate and started over, the look of intense concentration on her face giving way to a flood of embarrassed tears as Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie enveloped her in a group hug and promised her she'd be OK.

No matter who ended up in the winner's circle after Sunday night's two-hour American Idol finale, they were destined to make history as the first champ to celebrate from the comfort of their own home. Not by choice of course, by due to the way the 18th season of the beloved singing competition had to completely change things up mid-way due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

A stay-at-home celebration is not what anyone involved with American Idol ordered off the menu, be they contestants, judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan or host Ryan Seacrest. Still, 2020 threw the world a curveball, and so here we are.

Dillon James, Jonny West, Arthur Gunn, Francisco Martin and Just Sam were announced as the final five at the top of the show, eliminating Julia Gargano and Louis Knight from the competition.
