AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron sat down for an interview on CNBC’s Squawk Alley today, telling the show’s hosts that the chain’s possible re-opening between May to mid-June is still “more of the right timing, but nobody knows.”
Aron shut down the biggest exhibition chain out of coronavirus safety on March 17, and believes a three-month window will hopefully be enough, as opposed to China which only shuttered their theaters for two
The emerging narrative on Wall Street about AMC Theatres, North America's largest cinema circuit, is that the company may be on the brink of bankruptcy amid the coronavirus pandemic. The theater chain's hefty debt load is trading at highly distressed levels, and analysts have sounded the alarm that "AMC has minimal liquidity options to make it through" the virus crisis, recommending investors sell off stock before the exhibition giant files for Chapter 11 protection.

Chinese online ticketing service Maoyan Entertainment released a report Tuesday suggesting that moviegoers in the Middle Kingdom are growing more and more eager to return to cinemas after nearly three months of coronavirus-forced closures.
Numerous furloughed workers at Hollywood's iconic TCL Chinese Theatre and adjoining multiplex were terminated on Wednesday amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has led to unprecedented cinema closures across the U.S. The historic movie palace, along with six smaller adjacent auditoriums, have been shut for business since March 16.

As the coronavirus pandemic has become essentially contained in China, the country is trying to get back to normal. To boost its movie theatres industry, the country is all set to re-release Marvel's Avengers films in theatres. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the films will hit the movie screens in the next few days or weeks. Some other films which will be released in the theatres are Avatar, Inception, and Interstellar.
