King admitted that he believes it may have been the 25th anniversary of the 1998 premiere of “Sex and the City” — which took place June 6 — that prompted Cattrall to come back.He added that he always wanted to keep her character “alive,” despite her absence last season. “Even to the point where Kim was finished playing her for a while I wanted to keep Samantha alive because she’s a big part of the ‘Sex and the City’ brand,” King explained.“So here it is the 25th anniversary, and I guess magic happened,” he continued.
