After breaking up in March 2013, My Chemical Romance announced their reunion in October 2019, playing a show in California that December. After an almost seven-year hiatus, the return of My Chemical Romance arrives on a high note as the band has already sold out its North American tour with 228,600 tickets purchased in less than six hours.
My Chemical Romance's legions of diehard fans swarmed social media on Wednesday (Jan. 29) in the wake of the band's announcement that they'll be reuniting for a North American tour in 2020.
My Chemical Romance have finally announced their full comeback tour. The new North American dates begin in Detroit on September 9. The band made the announcement in a video directed by Kris Mercado, featuring music composed by guitarist Ray Toro and keyboardist Jamie Muhoberac. The visual begins with a young man lacing his shoes and brewing a cup of coffee before playing with a ouija board. He then gets summoned into a realm filled with allusions and imagery from MCR’s history and discography.
As anticipated, My Chemical Reunion’s December show at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, their first in nine years, was not a one-off, as America goes. Following the announcement of some European gigs, the group has also slated a month-long run of arena shows in 18 cities this fall, including a return to L.A. in a much less exclusive venue, the Forum.
