A man 'mentally tortured' his ex-girlfriend after claiming to have planted three secret bugging devices in her office.
Cybercrime expert Michael Dickens told his partner he had paid an investigator to install the devices at her workplace so he could eavesdrop on her private conversations, a court heard. He also claimed that someone was following her.
Dickens sent cruel emails and WhatsApp messages to the victim in his campaign of harassment, including one of a poem titled 'The Witches and the Wolfpack' which the court heard mocked her unsuccessful attempts to conceive a child. The victim had to spend £1,800 having her office and car swept for bugs.

No bugging devices were found during the sweep, but she was left 'paranoid' and now has flashbacks. In a statement to police, the victim, from Warrington, said: "I encountered deep distress and developed extreme paranoia during the period in which I suspected I was being followed and bugged.
''It had a huge impact on my daily routine from buying a new phone, setting up emails, looking over my shoulder to not being able to speak on hands free Bluetooth in the car. I would leave my business premises every time I wanted to call my solicitors or have a private conversation.
"I spent £1,800 having my business and vehicles swept for bugging devices in order to gain peace of mind after the defendant told me that I had been bugged and followed. I still have this paranoia now and am constantly wary as I go about my day-to-day-life.''
