Asif Kapadia teases new music doc about “famous” group and compares it to ‘Amy’

Amy Winehouse, Amy – will be pleased to hear he’s returning to the genre soon with a new project.Kapadia is known for his forensic, archive-heavy films about global stars including racing driver Ayrton Senna, Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona and Winehouse, but he has veered away from that approach recently. His latest show about tennis superstar Roger Federer’s final days before retirement uses precious little archive material, and when he has reverted to type it has been for streaming series such as Disney+’s Camden and 1971: The Year That Changed Everything on Apple TV+.

Adam Lambert says he and Queen found way to discuss Freddie Mercury’s sexuality “in a respectful manner”

Adam Lambert says he and the surviving members of Queen have found a way to discuss late frontman Freddie Mercury‘s sexuality “in a respectful manner”.Yesterday, a documentary titled Adam Lambert: Out, Loud and Proud aired on ITV1, and featured Lambert and Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor discussing Lambert’s – and Freddie Mercury’s – sexuality. In the documentary, May suggested that Mercury would’ve dismissed being labeled as a queer performer, and that the latter would probably have said: “I’m a performer, darling.” They also spoke about how Mercury’s sexuality had influenced his artistry.Per the Mirror, Lambert revealed that while he has been with Queen since 2011, he had never found a way to discuss Mercury’s sexuality with May and Taylor until the ITV1 documentary’s filming process.Lambert said: “They’re not usually comfortable speaking about Freddie’s sexuality on camera – they respect his privacy. But we found a way to speak about it in a respectful manner.

Angelique Jackson The trailer for Focus Features’ upcoming movie “Piece by Piece” begins with a Lego-fied Pharrell Williams sitting down for an interview about his life. “You know what what would be cool is if we told my story with Lego pieces,” Lego Pharrell tells the similarly-bricked director Morgan Neville (the Oscar-winning documentarian behind “20 Feet From Stardom”), who chuckles politely and asks, “Seriously?” Pharrell replies: “Just be open.” The colorfully and creatively reimagined scene is pretty close to how the conversation played out nearly five years ago, Neville says, as he and Williams sign on to a Zoom chat to discuss how this innovative project came together. “That’s how the conversation went down in my head,” he tells Variety.

Blossoms tease new music via a mysterious hotline

Blossoms have been teasing new music by directing fans to call a mysterious hotline. The Stockport indie rockers advertised the number with a video featuring a tow truck driving down a road with a giant gorilla statue on its back end, along with the number. The gorilla statue may have been a nod to the video for their previous single ‘What Can I Say After I’m Sorry?’ in which Everton manager Sean Dyche hires them for a gorilla heist in a spoof of the story of an eight-foot fibreglass gorilla called Gary being stolen from a garden centre in Scotland last year.Fans later revealed that when they called the hotline, they could hear snippets of new Blossoms music. In fact, the stunt proved so popular that the line crashed.

Miranda Lambert on Her New Label, Republic, Setting a Fire With ‘Wranglers,’ and Returning to Recording in Texas: ‘I Just Feel Like, Finally, I’m Home’

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic When people think of country superstar Miranda Lambert, one of the things that first comes to mind is pyro — not because she has that huge a penchant for setting things off on stage (though it happens), but because of lyrical connotations going back to her first platinum single, “Kerosene.” When it comes to her own career, though, things have consistently gone too well to ever need to go into burn-it-all-down mode. As she’s subtle changed approach from album to album and single to single, Lambert has been all about controlled burns.
