Abuse survivors have hit out over sex shame comedian Louis C.K.’s upcoming Scottish gig.
The American, who had admitted abusing five women after being outed by his victims, is set to play Glasgow in October. Four comics and another woman, driven by #MeToo, revealed what the 54-year-old did.
The comic is booked for the 15,000 capacity Ovo Hydro, part of the Scottish Events Campus. The 2017 allegations led to the release of film I Love You Daddy, a comedy about an ageing film director, played by John Malkovich being scrapped.
He apologised and said he “had wielded power irresponsibly”. But he has recently returned to the stage, and Scottish abuse survivors have blasted the decision to let him perform.
Brave mum Carol Burns was abused by paedophile teacher William Wright, 81, at Eastwood High School, in the affluent Glasgow suburb of Newton Mearns, in the 1980s.
She said: “I am disgusted and dismayed that a company like the Hydro would allow a sexual abuser to perform.
“This man admitted his sexual misconduct on five women and the only punishment which he got was the film he was making was cancelled. Why does he get to carry on as if nothing has happened yet his victims are left traumatised?
Evil Harpal Singh Sehra was jailed for repeatedly raping Julie Spence as her three children slept upstairs in their home in Ballingry, Fife.
Julie, 41, said: “I’m so outraged that the message we seem to be sending is, ‘you can be a sex offender as long as you’re famous or have cash’.”
A Scottish Events Campus spokesperson said: “The booking for this event was processed in the same way we would for any event. The venue’s stance is all events must adhere to our safety and security requirements.”
