American rapper Aaron Carter has died aged 34.
The singer turned rapper was found dead at his home in Lancaster, CA on Saturday morning, according to TMZ. The publication claims his body was found in the bathtub.
Police sources told TMZ they received a 911 call at 11 AM Saturday that a male had drowned in the tub. An official cause of death is unknown and it likely will not be disclosed until an autopsy and coroner’s report has been completed.
Aaron began his career at just seven years old, and released his first self-titled album two years later at nine which sold millions of copies worldwide.
His second album Aaron's Party sold three million copies across the US, and as a result Carter began making guest appearances on Nickelodeon and touring with the Backstreet Boys shortly after the record's release.
Carter dabbled in acting, appearing on shows including Lizzie McGuire and making his Broadway debut in 2001 as JoJo the Who in Seussical the Musical.
As the popstar grew older, Aaron struggled with substance abuse, mental health issues and relationship problems. Just two months ago, the I Want Candy singer “voluntarily” checked into an out-patient program of a rehab center in order to try and regain custody of his 11-month-old son, Prince.
Aaron previously said that he was seeking help to manage “triggers” that made him want to smoke marijuana, and also admitted to taking Xanax as part of a “regimented medication” plan to keep him “clean from huffing dust.”
Just days ago, it was reported in TMZ that the star was pulled over by police on suspicion of a DUI. Deputies pulled the singer over Tuesday at 10:45am after they received a call about a driver weaving in traffic and possibly driving under the influence.
