A Place in the Sun star Ben Hillman once had something of a holiday from hell after suffering a gruesome injury while traveling with his family in France.
The TV presenter, who works alongside the likes of Laura Hamilton and Scarlette Douglas on the hit Channel 4 show, spent the first few days of the summer 2022 trip getting medical treatment after badly injuring himself at a water park. Sporting a bandaged hand and a plate of hospital grub in the shot, he wrote: "Not the French cuisine I had in mind for the first day of our family holiday!".
He went on to detail the extent of the painful injury to his fans, stating: "Managed to acquire an open fracture/dislocation on the water slide." For those unfamiliar with medical terms, he further clarified that the bone was actually protruding through his skin. Offering some wise advice to his followers, Ben emphasised the importance of securing travel insurance before venturing abroad while thanking the French healthcare and emergency services for their intervention.
He said: "Word to the wise, don't forget your travel insurance this summer. Have fun out there guys.

Throughout the weekend, Ben kept his followers up-to-date about his injury, revealing that he had undergone a procedure to remove the metal rod inserted in his thumb. Sharing another picture from Worthing hospital he said: "4 weeks on from the accident and the metal rod is coming out." Additionally, the father-of-two shared a cheeky 're-enactment' video documenting the cringe-worthy moment it was removed, hilariously labelling it as #theyrebigpliers #diysurgery.
After a successful recovery, Ben jokingly added : "Thank you # NHS. And I didn't
