Luckily, Abbott Lyon’s Lead Product Designer Jasmin Stanbridge is on hand when it comes to removing any grime and has revealed that getting jewellery looking pristine again doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
Let’s take a peek at her go-to guide… Liquid soap method When it comes to looking after pieces of gold plated jewellery, Jasmin recommends bringing some of that lavish shine back to life using liquid soap. As simple as it may sound, mixing a mild liquid soap with some warm water can create the perfect solution when cleaning jewellery.
Simply place your worse-for-wear pieces in the solution for a few minutes and gently rub the items with a soft cloth to remove any additional dirt. If you’re dealing with an item that has lots of small details or engravings, try using a toothbrush to clean in all those hard to reach areas. Once the items have been cleaned, rinse the jewellery in some warm water before thoroughly drying with a lint-free cloth.
Baking soda method Alternatively, reaching for your trusty packet of baking soda is another great way of rescuing any gold-plated items. To do so, first line a glass bowl with some aluminium foil and be sure to place the shiny side facing upwards.
