“The Gray Man” is Netflix’s biggest action movie to date (its budget is said to be more than $200 million) – and one of its best. The new Russo Brothers movie stars Ryan Gosling as the shadowy agent of the title, who gets involved in a job gone wrong and soon finds himself being hunted by Chris Evans as a mustachioed psychopath. There’s some truly harrowing spy-versus-spy action and some nice emotional beats as well.
It’s so satisfying, in fact, that it might leave you hankering for some more action movies you can only find on Netflix. With that in mind, we handily compiled a list of the best Netflix Original action movies on the service — that is, action movies on Netflix that were made by Netflix. You might want to grab an ice pack before we start, there’s definitely a chance there could be some bruising.Produced by the Russo Brothers (Joe also wrote the screenplay), directed by their longtime first assistant director Sam Hargrave, and starring their “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” hero Chris Hemsworth, “Extraction” is a nonstop action free-for-all.
And it totally rules. The set-up is as simple as it is effective: Hemsworth plays Rake, a former government man turned mercenary who winds up protecting the son of a powerful Indian crime boss from all sorts of colorful characters.
Hargrave is a master of action and the sequences have a tactile believability, many times unfolding over the course of one single “unbroken” shot (they are actually a few shots stitched together). And even better – “Extraction 2” is on its way for next year, with Hemsworth and Hargrave returning alongside the Russos.Ostensibly Netflix’s crack at a superhero franchise, “The Old Guard” is based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka,

Are some films just too big to fail? That could be the case with Netflix’s “The Gray Man.” While the Russo Brothers’ film has an unfavorable 48% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the action thriller is currently #1 on Netflix, and clearly, the streaming service and the Russo’s AGBO films empire are more than happy with how the film performed with audiences. Because today, the company announced much more ‘Gray Man’ is on the way.

Netflix’s new movie The Gray Man is now streaming and it’s one of the most expensive films that the streamer has ever made!
Netflix dropped a whopping $200 million ($50 million shy of the budget for “No Time To Die”) on the visually grand adaptation of Mark Greaney’s spy novels in hopes that it kicks off a popular movie series along the lines of James Bond, “The Bourne Identity,” “Mission: Impossible” and “John Wick.” Best of luck! That’s an awfully tall order when your film doesn’t have a strong main character.James Bond is King Lear next to Sierra Six — played by a cold and demure Gosling — an imprisoned murderer who has his sentence commuted in exchange for becoming a trained underground killer for the CIA. He carries out secret unsavory missions for the government. When Six is lured into the gig by his handler Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), he’s told, “You’ll exist in the gray.” Six replies: “Disposable?”Yup. Skip ahead 18 years.
“The Gray Man,” largely publicized as Netflix’s most expensive action extravaganza yet, is debuting on the streaming service this Friday. The tale of an operative who does the CIA’s dirty work (played by Ryan Gosling), who then becomes the target of another, more sadistic contractor (played by Chris Evans), it’s good, old-fashioned spy-versus-spy stuff.
Bond odds have been the topic of conversation in recent weeks. Daniel Craig stepped down from the role of James Bond last year following the release of No Time To Die. And since then, many actors have been suggested as good candidates to take over from the actor.

Somewhere during the tediously long shootout that more or less climaxes Joe and Anthony Russo’s uneven espionage actioner The Gray Man (★★☆☆☆), it hit me that I couldn’t exactly recall the name of the movie’s hero, played by Ryan Gosling. Was it Cord, or Cole? It’s not that it never came up, but somehow, his name — Court Gentry, as it turns out — simply didn’t register. It also didn’t seem to matter, both because Court had intentionally become a ghost, a CIA operative known only as Sierra Six, and because Gosling’s bland take on the trained assassin with “a very particular set of skills” à la Taken feels like it could have been played by any number of A-list actors. That’s so not the case with Six’s ruthless nemesis Lloyd Hansen, a name repeated often, with fear or infuriation, and a villain personified with an oddball mix of glee and cruelty by erstwhile Captain America, Chris Evans.Between two Avengers films and two Captain America sequels, the Russo’s have banked billions at the box office on the back of Evans’ preternaturally upstanding Marvel hero.
”The Gray Man”, an adaptation of the Mark Greaney novel of the same name. For the film, the Russo Brothers have recruited longtime collaborator Chris Evans, seen in their work on “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014), “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), “Avengers: Infinity War”(2018), and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019). However, this time around Evans plays the villain not the hero, with Ryan Gosling filling the role of the film’s protagonist.
Netflix places one of its biggest bets yet on “The Gray Man,” a globe-trotting action thriller starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. One of the streamer's most expensive films, “The Gray Man" is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the brothers who presided over one of the biggest box-office smashes ever ("Avengers: Endgame") before they started churning out blockbusters for Netflix. Their “Extraction,” with Chris Hemsworth, ranks as one of the service's most-watched films, and “The Gray Man” — a spy vs.
