On hearing the school bell or wolfing down the last mouthfull of your tea, we couldn't wait to go outside and play with our mates as kids.
Sadly it seems these days, the art of playing out and childhood games are becoming a thing of the past. Recent research conducted by home builders Redrow found two-thirds of parents say that their kids spend less time playing outside than they did at the same age.
Surveying 2,000 parents of children aged four to 17, the research also found a third of youngsters never play in their street and only 30% regularly visit their local park. The survey was undertaken as part of the homebuilders 'Please Play Here' campaign, encouraging kids to play outside.

The initiative is being headed by Dr Helen Dodd, a professor of child psychology at Exeter University.
She said: "The research shows that fewer children are playing outdoors than in their parents' generation with a particularly notable decline in street play. Parents recognise that outdoor play is important for children’s physical health, mental health and social skills but we still see declines in this type of play."
Two major barriers to children playing outside Dr Dodd cited were parental concerns for road safety and a lack of open spaces. Adding: "Parents want to see more safe spaces for play in their local neighbourhood. Almost half of parents reported that they made friends with neighbours after their children had played outdoors together – outlining how key play is, not only for children, but for social connections and bonds within the wider community."
