Any film noir lover knows the names of novelist Raymond Chandler and his hardboiled detective, Philip Marlowe, go hand in hand with the film genre. And over the decades, there’s been several timeless renditions of Marlowe onscreen, from Humphrey Bogart and Dick Powell‘s seminal performances in “The Big Sleep” and “Murder, My Sweet” to Elliott Gould‘s off-beat take in 1973’s “The Long Goodbye.” Now Liam Neeson takes a crack at the character, in his 100th film role, in “Marlowe,” in theaters this Valentine’s Day weekend.

Liza Foreman Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger turned out at the San Sebastian Film Festival on Saturday to support the world premiere of Neil Jordan’s “Marlowe,” which closes the festival tonight. Jordan and William Monahan’s adaptation of John Banville’s novel “The Black-Eyed Blonde” centers Raymond Chandler’s famous detective Philip Marlowe, and – like Chandler’s books – is set in 1930s Los Angeles. Jordan said it was confusing to call it a film noir. “First of all, it’s shot in color,” he said. Even though it is set in the past, it’s a futuristic film that provided his reference point for the look of this one.

EXCLUSIVE: Open Road Films has acquired North American rights to Marlowe, a noir crime thriller that stars Liam Neeson atop an ensemble that includes Diane Kruger, Jessica Lange, Danny Huston, Alan Cumming, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ian Hart, Colm Meaney, Daniela Melchior and Francois Arnaud. Neil Jordan directed the film from script by The Departed’s William Monahan. The film will be released theatrically December 2 through Open Road/Briarcliff Entertainment.

Jonah Hill has joined an upcoming limited series which will see him portray legendary “Hollywood Fixer” Sidney Korshak.

EXCLUSIVE: Jonah Hill and William Monahan are teaming on a limited series that will tell the complicated story of Hollywood fixer Sidney Korshak and Lew Wasserman, the MCA chairman who was the most powerful man in Hollywood. Hill will play Korshak and Monahan will create the series. The package will be shopped shortly. The aim is for it to have the epic sweep of Scorsese films like The Irishman and The Departed, the latter of which won Monahan the Academy Award.

It sure does feel like it’s been a while since we’ve really seen Jonah Hill appear in a meaty role in something, right? Since 2018, the actor has only appeared in two live-action films (“Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot” and “The Beach Bum”) and one series (“Maniac”). But those hoping for a big-time Jonah Hill fix are in luck, as it appears the actor has another limited series on the horizon.

The Handmaid's Tale director Reed Morano is in talks to direct Jennifer Lopez in The Godmother, a movie based on the true-life Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, for STXfilms, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Lopez will star as Blanco and produce alongside Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina and Julie Yorn.

Emmy winner Reed Morano is in negotiations to direct Jennifer Lopez in the drug lord drama “The Godmother” for STXfilms.
