Prince‘s ‘Purple Rain’ is set to become a stage musical featuring some of the pop icon’s famous tracks.The stage adaptation of Prince’s 1984 film will be produced by Orin Wolf – who previously led the Tony-winning adaptation of “The Band’s Visit” to the stage and is currently backing the theatrical adaptation of another music industry movie, Buena Vista Social Club – and will be based on the original screenplay which was written by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn.American playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins is set to write the book for the musical. His play, Appropriate, is currently running on Broadway.

Prince‘s music will reportedly be used in a new jukebox musical movie.As per The Hollywood Reporter, the project has apparently been in development since 2018. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is set to produce, whilst Bryan Edward Hill (Titans, Ash vs. Evil Dead) is attached to write the script.The film is also set to be distributed by Universal Pictures.

James Caan, whose remarkable performances in The Godfather, Elf and Misery made him a screen icon, has had his cause of death revealed by the Los Angeles County Coroner.

James Caan, who scored an Oscar nom as mafioso Sonny Corleone in The Godfather and an Emmy nom for playing NFL running back Brian Piccolo in Brian’s Song among a host of big film and TV roles including Elf and Las Vegas, died Wednesday night. He was 82. His family confirmed the news on Caan’s Twitter page.

William Blinn, the two-time Emmy winner who penned the Prince-starring Purple Rain, created Starsky & Hutch and wrote for such landmark TV projects as Roots, Fame and Brian's Song, has died. He was 83.
