For the past 10 years, RuPaul’s Drag Race has delighted fans with the Rusical — a musical production during each season that features the remaining contestants performing their take on a famous show. The concept has become somewhat of a staple on the series, though none have been quite as topical as Season 15’s Wigloose.

The new season of RuPaul‘s Drag Race has set up an all-star lineup to guest judge Season 16, including Oscar winner Charlize Theron, music star Becky G and Buffy, the Vampire Slayer alum Sarah Michelle Gellar.

World of Wonder has announced the drag queens who will compete in season one of “Drag Race Germany,” the first German iteration of the award winning “RuPaul’s Drag Race” franchise. The show is set to premiere on Sept.

Almost a year ago, songwriter, producer, and music artist Leland and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” executive producer Tom Campbell began working on the latest “Rusical” or mini-musical for the 16th season of the Emmy-winning reality competition program. A staple of the series, Leland had written numerous Rusicals centered on everyone from Madonna to The Kardashians, and, in theory, this year would be no different.

Executive producer Tom Campbell credits fellow producers John Polley and Michael Seligman for coming up with this year’s “Wigloose: The Rusical.” Says Campbell, “They said ‘Wigloose,’ like ‘Footloose,’ and it writes itself.” The maxi challenge puts the queens’ performing skills to the test, through song, dance and acting, as they tell a musical story. Previous challenges have included “Moulin Ru: The Rusical,” Madonna, Cher and even Donald Trump’s presidency. The idea is that audiences already know the story of the Rusical and condense that into a production that’s less than 12 minutes long.
