Agent Jackie Gill said in a statement: “It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78. “A much loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.

Len Goodman left Bruno Tonioli in tears when he made the emotional decision to quit Dancing with the Stars. Last November, the former Strictly Come Dancing judge announced on Dancing With The Stars that he would be hanging up his scoring paddle for the last time at the end of that series.

Goodman’s manager confirmed his death to the BBC on Monday. The judge was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2021. He died on Saturday at a hospice in Kent, surrounded by his family. Goodman was a mainstay as the head judge on popular BBC dance competition “Strictly Come Dancing” from its 2004 launch right up until 2016. He also served as a judge on the U.S. adaptation of the show, “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC, from its launch in 2005 through to 2022. The BBC released a statement just minutes after Goodman’s death was first announced by the public broadcaster, with director general Tim Davie calling him a “wonderful, warm entertainer who was adored by millions.”

In a statement on Monday morning, the BBC revealed that it will conduct a review of its social media guidance “with a particular focus on how it applies to freelancers outside news and current affairs,” which is the category for star talent such as Lineker. The “Match of the Day” host said in a comment: “I am glad that we have found a way forward. I support this review and look forward to getting back on air.”
