Despite starring in two seasons of “The Crown” as Prince Charles, Josh O’Connor admits he knows absolutely nothing about the Royal Family.

Nick Vivarelli International Correspondent Alice Rohrwacher is in the Cannes competition for the third time with “La Chimera,” in which “The Crown” star Josh O’Connor plays a young British archeologist named Arthur who gets involved in an international network of stolen Etruscan artifacts during the 1980s. For Rohrwacher, the film is connected to growing up in Umbria, once the center of the Etruscan civilization. But it’s also the final piece of a triptych on a territory that she started with her previous Cannes entries: “The Wonders” and “Happy as Lazzaro.” Three works that, as she has put it, pose a central question: “What to do with the past?”  

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any updates on Francis Lee‘s untitled horror film, which he’s said will explore “some fundamentals about being queer.” Well, we finally have a bit of casting news, as Josh O’Connor is reuniting with his “God’s Own Country” director and starring in the upcoming horror film.

It might seem like he was born for for the role, but Josh O’Connor very nearly turned down the opportunity to play Prince Charles on “The Crown”.

Josh O’Connor, who was on the receiving end of critical praise for his portrayal of a Prince Charles coming into his own as a young man within the confines of royal life and the pressures of being part of the British monarchy. His debut coincided with the BBC release of and was followed by the celebrated 2020 remake of, with the actor playing Mr. Elton, and is expected to be named among the nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.
