What a sabbatical!It’s been 10 long years since Sophia Loren last starred in a feature film, an autobiographical TV movie called “My House is Full of Mirrors.” Back then, Instagram had not yet been invented and pricey hard seltzer was known as a vodka soda. Yes, the world has changed a lot over the past decade, but 86-year-old Loren is still as reassuringly robust and vital as she always was.

The same Romain Gary novel that became the Oscar-winning 1977 French drama, Madame Rosa, earning a César Award for Simone Signoret in the title role, gets relocated from Paris to a Southern Italian coastal town in The Life Ahead. This sensitive contemporary remake, set in one of the hubs of the Euro-Mediterranean migrant crisis, reshapes the work as a vehicle for director Edoardo Ponti's celebrated mother, Sophia Loren, back on the screen after a 10-year absence.

“Here we go again,” Diane Warren says. The Grammy, Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner has jumped on the phone to discuss “Io sì (Seen)” a beautiful ballad sung by Italian pop star Laura Pausini from Edoardo Ponti’s “The Life Ahead.” A song that also puts her right back in the middle of awards season.
