BreAnna Bell A series of changes have taken place at Showtime. Variety has confirmed the network has canceled “Ziwe” after just two seasons and has picked up Mandy Patinkin’s “Seasoned” to series, delivering a six-episode order. Hosted and executive produced by comedian Ziwe Fumudoh, the talk show focused on presenting trending hot topics concerning race, politics and other cultural issues as well as musical numbers, interviews, guest stars and comedic sketches. Guests on Season 2 included Drew Barrymore, Rowan Blanchard, Blake Griffin, Emily Ratajkowski and Mia Khalifa, among others. The series first debuted in 2021. With the loss, that leaves Showtime without a current late night talk show following the cancellation of “Desus & Mero” (which Ziwe also served as a writer on before moving to her own show). The changes come as part of Showtime’s reevaluation of the programming slate after MTV Entertainment Group president and CEO Chris McCarthy stepped in to oversee the cabler once former CEO David Nevins left in October.

Jennifer Maas TV Business Writer SPOILER ALERT: This interview contains spoilers from “Poker Face” Episode 8, titled “The Orpheus Syndrome,” now streaming on Peacock. “Poker Face” took on a “Salvador Dali having a party with Alfred Hitchcock” vibe for its Episode 8 — directed and co-written by star Natasha Lyonne, who provided Variety with that delightful description for the installment, titled “The Orpheus Syndrome.” The Thursday episode of Rian Johnson’s hit Peacock howdunit followed Lyonne’s human lie-detector Charlie Cale in her latest murder mystery, guest starring Nick Nolte, Cherry Jones, Luis Guzmán, Tim Russ and Rowan Blanchard. This case, which ended up being a double homicide, hit her particularly hard after she grew very close to the second victim, a monster-movie maker named Arthur (played by Nick Nolte) whom she began working for in his creature-feature shop at the top of the episode. Arthur was murdered by Jones’ Laura, his former business partner who first killed her husband Max (Russ), after he discovered a dark secret from Arthur, Laura and Max’s early days making horror flicks together.
No lies detected here. Rian Johnson‘s Poker Face has been renewed for a second season at Peacock.

Crush (★★★☆☆). In one pivotal scene between two amorous teens, a rainbow, distinct though far in the distance, arcs across the horizon, a bellwether of good fortune for young lovers.Just as fortunately, director Sammi Cohen, and screenwriters Kirsten King and Casey Rackham, seek to subvert their movie’s candy-coated innocence with a keen edge of tart and bawdy humor that keeps the ship from sinking into cheesy oblivion. That contrast bears out in the characters, too, with never-been-kissed high school junior Paige, played by Rowan Blanchard, often embarrassed by her oversharing, sex-positive mom Angie, played by Megan Mullally, a comic actress who, of course, knows her way around, over, and through a double entendre.Angie’s a “cool mom” to the extreme, so fully supportive of lesbian daughter Paige that she gifts her packs of glow-in-the-dark dental dams.
Gabby’s sister, AJ (Auli’i Cravalho), a journey which is providing inspiration in itself.Directed by Sammi Cohen and written by Casey Rackham and Kirsten King, “Crush” also boasts a cast that includes Megan Mullally, Aasif Mandvi, Michelle Buteau and more. For Blanchard, saying “yes” to this project happened “very, very quickly.”“They sent me [the script], and then I was like, ‘I want to do this. How do I do this?’ So then that was that,” Blanchard told TheWrap. The fact that it was a teen rom-com about two young women was just an added bonus.
