Jack Dunn “Rosemary’s Baby” prequel “Apartment 7A,” starring Julia Garner and directed by Natalie Erika James, will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ ahead of the Halloween season. Manori Ravindran Executive Editor of International “Blue Jean” director Georgia Oakley has signed with CAA. The up-and-coming British filmmaker made her debut feature with the Venice-premiering “Blue Jean,” which bowed to wide acclaim on the Lido in September. Set in northeast England in the 1980s, the pic is centred on a closeted gym teacher (played by Rosy McEwen) who is forced to confront her sexuality after taking a gay student under her wing. The film tackles the Margaret Thatcher era’s controversial Section 28 law, which prohibited British schools and councils from “promoting the teaching of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship.” The law was passed in 1988 and stayed in place until 2003.

If you want to understand diversity, try programming a mini-film festival with five features and a package of shorts that makes everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community feel represented. (Or try living in Florida, where diversity means that anyone who is not straight, white and Christian breaks the law if they demand equality.)

Angelique Jackson CAA has signed rising British star Rosy McEwen.  The actor, who was not previously represented in the U.S., will be represented by the agency in all areas.  McEwen will next be seen opposite Julia Garner in Paramount Players’ “Apartment 7A.” The mysterious new psychological thriller, which is speculated to be connected to “Rosemary’s Baby,” is produced by John Krasinski and Allyson Seeger (for Sunday Night), along with Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller (through Platinum Dunes). The project is directed by Natalie Erika James. She is best known for playing Libby Hatch in “The Alienist.” The TNT limited series, which is based on the best-selling novel by Caleb Carr and starred Dakota Fanning, Daniel Brühl and Luke Evans.

Scottish filmmaker Charlotte Wells’s acclaimed debut feature Aftersun swept the board, snagging seven wins at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) in London this evening.

Magnolia Pictures acquired North American rights to Blue Jean, the directorial debut of Georgia Oakley which just world-premiered in the Venice Days section of the Venice Film Festival. Naman Ramachandran U.K.-based distributor DCD Rights has acquired Grammy-nominated feature documentary “Music, Money, Madness… Jimi Hendrix Live In Maui.” The 90-minute documentary chronicles guitar legend Jimi Hendrix’s visit to Maui in July 1970 and details how he became ensnared in “Rainbow Bridge,” an ill-fated independent film produced by his manager, Michael Jeffery.Jeffery secured a $300,000 advance against the promise of a soundtrack album by Hendrix — the first time a movie was funded solely by an album. Jeffery hired Chuck Wein, a former associate of Andy Warhol, to direct.

Yossman “The Alienist’s” Rosy McEwen has boarded Georgia Oakley’s upcoming feature “Blue Jean” in the lead role.McEwen, who was named one of Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch 2020, will play the eponymous Jean, a teacher who finds herself grappling with her identity during the tail-end of the 1980s.Oakley, whose debut short film “Little Bird” was nominated for best narrative short film at Tribeca Film Festival, is directing the film from her original screenplay.“Jean is a woman forced to wear multiple masks in the different areas of her life, and as such she has this sort of taut, cloistered energy that Rosy has absolutely mastered,” Oakley said in a statement.
