The American Film Institute (AFI) Board of Trustees will bestow his 49th AFI Life Achievement Award on Oscar winner Nicole Kidman at their June 10, 2023 ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Kidman is the first Australian actor to receive this honor.

Nicholas Hoult and Anya Taylor-Joy have much in common in their recent onscreen work. They star together in the culinary thriller “The Menu,” in theaters now.

Coming off the blood-pumping Viking epic “The Northman” from director Robert Eggers, Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård (“Succession”) will be seen next in Brandon Cronenberg’s next movie “Infinity Pool.” But perhaps working alongside all these indie auteurs has activated something in the actor as Skarsgård is about to make his directorial debut soon. A new report from Deadline reveals that Skarsgård will co-star and direct “The Pack,” which will also work as a reunion of sorts as Florence Pugh (“Midsommar”) will take a lead role too in the film as well.

Last Friday, news broke that Robert Eggers’ remake of “Nosferatu” was underway again, with Bill Skarsgard attached to the star. And that’s excellent news, as the film is a passion project for Eggers long in the making.

Lily James and Willem Dafoe have signed on to star in the indie drama Finalmente L’alba (Finally Dawn) sources tell Deadline. Rachel Sennott and Rebecca Antonac are also on board with Saverio Constanzo directing the pic.

This week marks the physical release of one of the year’s best and most bruising films, “The Northman.” Directed by Robert Eggers, the film follows Viking Prince Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) on a lifelong journey of revenge against to man who killed his father, stole his mother, and threw his life into ruin. “The Northman,” is a lot of movie: it’s a primal, visceral action film that should impress all-action heads, a meditative somber journey on the nature of revenge, making for a great emotional drama, and a psychedelic art film all rolled up into one and it’s easily one of the best movies of the year.

When the ambitious and much-anticipated Viking epic “The Northman” came out earlier this year, director Robert Eggers seemed poised to be the talk of cinema’s discourse. While there were terrific reviews (including ours) in various interviews, Eggers seemed disappointed, expressing concern about his final cut of the film and the shelving of several of his ideas for future projects.
