All modern superhero movies owe a lot to the work of Richard Donner with the original “Superman” movie, whether it’s “Wonder Woman,” or “Shazam!” or “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Of course, many recent superhero movies go for a darker and grittier tone that’s far removed from the bright optimism of Donner’s 1978 film, and it turns out Donner is not a fan of this trend.

For years now, there have been rumblings about “Lethal Weapon 5.” With “Beverly Hills Cop” getting a new sequel, and other franchises from the ‘80s and ‘90s coming back for “one last” romp, it was only a matter of time that one of the most famous buddy-cop franchises would be revived, even if it’s been 22 years since the fourth feature. But according to filmmaker Richard Donner, not only is “Lethal Weapon 5” happening, but it’s also the end of the franchise.

Lethal Weapon 5.Donner, who was at the helm for all four of the previous action movies starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, said the fifth instalment will definitely be the last outing for Detective Martin Riggs and his partner Roger Murtaugh.He told The Daily Telegraph: “This is the final one. It’s both my privilege and duty to put it to bed.

“Goonies never say die,” and the cast is still going strong 35 years later.

The Goonies may have debuted more than 30 years ago, but its legacy will live in the hearts of viewers forever.The action-comedy film, directed by Richard Donner, hit theaters in June 1985 and follows the adventures of a group of kids from the Goon Docks area of Astoria, Oregon, who call themselves the Goonies.
